Talking about China is always surrounded by great doubts, misconceptions, and assumptions. One thing is certain: here at Genco, we love China. Let us tell you a little about our trip in October 2024 to the world's largest exporter.
Initially, it is important to address the crown jewel: the Canton Fair. The Canton Fair, or Canton Trade Fair, as it is known by many in Brazil, is the largest trade fair in China and one of the largest in the world, held twice a year in the city of Guangzhou. It takes place in three phases, each dedicated to different types of products, such as electronics, consumer goods, decoration, food, fashion, and much more. Being at the Canton Fair complex, in any of the phases visited, is an incredible and very enriching experience. It is certain: for everything you are looking for, the Canton Fair has it. From headphones to heavy agricultural machinery, our experience was very diverse, meeting old and new suppliers who will accompany our clients in a very successful partnership.
The contacts made at the Canton Fair are, in fact, eternal. For us, what remained were incredible negotiations that could never have been done by message, as well as much more confidence to import, since we know many suppliers in person.
But speaking of China, it's not just the Canton Fair that's worth it. We were warmly welcomed by several suppliers at their factories, to closely follow each stage of the production process, sometimes followed by very generous meals offered by them. For companies, knowing the production chain is extremely important; after all, it is a very large investment. Being there is a certificate of quality not only of the product but also of the service provided by the factory. It's worth it, isn't it?
Depending on the import product, there are other incredible fairs in China that are worth visiting. For us, two fit the bill: the Yiwu market and the Shanghai fair.
The fixed market of Yiwu, known as Yiwu International Trade Market, is the largest market for "small commodities" in the world, located in the city of Yiwu, China. It is famous for being a true paradise for buyers, with thousands of booths selling an infinity of items, such as jewelry, toys, stationery, decoration, electronics, tools, and much more. Best of all: many stores do not have MOQ (Minimum Order Quantity). Yiwu is certainly the perfect place for any type of business: large or small. While you're there, don't forget to explore the city and all it has to offer in terms of culture and entertainment.
As for the Shanghai fair, or China International Import Expo (CIIE), it is a large international exhibition held annually in Shanghai. Unlike other fairs in China, which are focused on exports, the CIIE is dedicated to imports, attracting foreign companies that want to enter the Chinese market. The fair covers various sectors, such as food, automobiles, technology, medical equipment, consumer goods, and much more. It is an important opportunity for global companies to showcase their products and services directly to the vast Chinese market, connecting with local distributors, buyers, and investors.
Regardless of your focus during your trip to China, rest assured that your business will be boosted by the various negotiations that will be made there. This year, the visit for us and our clients was very special.
